September 7

September 7

Paul and I swapped cars at his office and I went to visit Peter at lunch time. Brandon decided to take his nap the moment we got off the exit for Daddy's office. But he slept a good afternoon nap (11-1:20). He never naps this long, I got home from my visit with PJ and he was still sleeping. While visiting with Peter the ultrasound technician came in to check his central line(in since his open heart surgery), they want to take it out today as well as his last umbilical line(in since his birthday 1st surgery). The doctors want to make sure there is no clotting before the take it out. Once they take it out Paul and I can hold Peter, I can't wait it's been 8 days since I've held him and probably 10 since Paul has held him.

Peter hasn't been getting any feedings for the past 24 hours and he won't get any for another 1-2 days until they get his leak around his lung healed. I got the name of the condition with his lung, chylothorax. His pediatrician came to visit him while I was there and she told me this is just temporary and I should be able to still give him breast milk, but it's unknown how long he'll have to take a special fat-free formula until the leak has healed.

At my night visit the doctors urged the nurse to not let anyone hold Peter because his chest tube is not very tightly in place and they don't want to risk it being pulled out of place. Another upset while visiting was seeing Peters heart rate peak up to 220 and not come back down, the doctor ended up giving him some medicine to bring it down, he said his sporadic heart jump was called supraventricular tachycardia, he had two more of these episodes after I left him, but after this they changed his medication and he's been fine ever since. My last scare was seeing Peters chest incision oozing some yellow fluid. The nurse did a lab culture and it came back with no bacteria present, that's a good sign. The nurse and doctor think it might be some of the chylothorax coming out, when they start him on his special formula they will watch the incision to see if anything else leaks out, but the doctors said it's better that it's coming out of his chest rather than staying in.

Since taking out his central line and umbilical line the doctor told me that the ultrasound he had did show a tiny clot and they are giving him a blood thinner to get rid of it, but his doctor said it was nothing to worry about they just want to get rid of any clots of a precaution since his heart his still healing. I can't believe it's been a week since his surgery, I feel like he's been through so much in just one week in the PICU, and then the week before his surgery in the NICU. It's so hard to believe our baby is 2 weeks old tomorrow. We just want our baby boy to have a 100% bill of health, but at the same time we want him home to enjoy life with our newest addition to the family.
