The doctors were still lowering Peter's level on the breathing machine during our early morning visit. Paul's parents headed back to NY after 6 days with us. I can't even begin to explain how much help it was to have them with us, and before them we had my mom here for 6 days. I have no clue how we would have been able to talk with doctors and be at Peters side for everything while we had Brandon to take care of. The one down side to the NICU and PICU is no one under 12 is allowed. Now that it's just Paul and I we are taking shifts at the hospital since one of us has to stay home with Brandon. But as of 4pm today the doctors removed the breathing tube. This is such a huge accomplishment, it means his lungs are strong enough to breath on their own after 4 days of being on a support machine. Our little Peter is such an amazing little guy. Daddy is visiting with him right now and giving phone updates by calling or texting. After the nurse shift change I'll go and visit him tonight. I can't wait to see him. I hope now Peter can be moved to the next level down from the PICU. Once he is out of the PICU I can bring Brandon with me to the hospital. His day nurse told us that she hopes to not see him in the PICU when she comes back to work on Wednesday this week, I hope so too!
I just got back from seeing Peter and he looks so good. He keeps making sounds like his throat his dry and spit bubbles keep coming out as he makes chewing movement with his mouth. But other than that his respiratory rate is normal and all other stats look amazingly normal. His doctor talked with Paul about him possibly having one out of his two central lines removed. The nurse tonight said it would be the one near his leg because the one in his neck has all the medications going in it, he needs that until he is weaned. Tomorrow Paul is going back to work for the first time just so he can keep some of his vacation for when Peter comes home. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe we have just less than one week left until he is well enough to come home. Paul is going to visit PJ on his lunch break since the hospital is literally a cross the street from his office and then I'll go see him after the nurse shift change in the evening. As much as I want to see PJ morning, day, and night I think tomorrow will be a nice day to rest and play with Brandon. My big boy has been going through a new stage of always wanting Mommy and if I'm not around he'll find my shoes and bring them to whoever is watching him and say Mama or just keep pointing to the front door saying Mama. So tomorrow Brandon will get a full day of Mama time, little does he know these days are numbered because when PJ comes home he has to share me with a needy newborn.
