Around 4am Peter was moved to a room in the pediatric cardiac unit. I took Brandon to meet him first thing. He was very nice to his little brother, he touched PJs head very softly with one finger, then he was no longer interested in his baby brother, he wanted to climb the crib, take PJs teddy bear, and run around the room and grab everything.
I spoke with Peters nurse and cardiologist and they told me about the plan for the day and goals Peter has to reach before going home. First they want Peter to gain weight and increase the amount of feeds he is taking per hour in his feeding tube. Then start timed feedings on the feeding tube and last but not least begin taking a bottle. Paul and I don't like how slow things move in the pediatric department. I feel like now that Peter is here we have to call or be present a lot more than when he was in the ICU, things move so slow on the pediatric floor. But it's a great sign that he doesn't need to be watched 24/7. It took all day for his nurse to get Peters new higher calorie formula, she finally put it in at 8pm (after telling me it was coming since 3pm). And once they started him on the higher calorie formula they began him right at 20ml per hour. Well of course Peter couldn't handle it and threw it up twice within the first hour before they completely stopped his feeds. I was so upset because if I wasn't there when he threw up he would be laying in it or even possibly choking in it. Luckily I laid him on his side, and he was a total trooper. Once the feeds were put on hold the nurse paged his doctor to come by to make a decision. Peter fell asleep so I decided to head home. I explained to the nurse before leaving that Peter has a very sensitive tummy, whenever he begins a new type of formula he has to start it slow and build is way up other wise he will just continue to throw it up. He did this with the tolerex and the low calorie enfaport when he started these. Well the doctor didn't want to take my suggestion until 5am when they ran out of the low calorie formula. His nurse started him on his new formula again 10ml per hour.
Oh fun fact, this morning Brandon said the word brother. But he pointed at his baby brother doll his Aunt Lindsey got him. We are started to just call the doll baby doll now and hope he'll catch on that his real brother is much more fragile than the doll. Brandon got some real baby brother time in yesterday afternoon too, he would pet his brother Peter and then shy away and giggle. It was so adorable. I have a feeling Brandon will be an awesome big brother.
