Cranky baby

Life has been rough for Brandon. We are breaking his habit of only taking day time naps on Mommy and Daddy. He is one stubborn baby because for a week he would cry for a hour, then sleep for only 20 minutes. But now we have it down to crying for 15-20 minutes and sleeping for 30-40 minutes. Hopefully this week the naps will get longer.

The worst was last night. Paul and I had to show Brandon some tough love. He took 90 minutes to get to sleep because he kept squirming in our arms and rubbing his eyes. Then he woke up at 11pm ready to play. Paul took him down stairs and he played for an hour. After that it was back into the crib to cry it out, which he did until he was hoarse. His father got up the next round at 4am (I love him sooooo much for letting me get some rest) and the B cried himself to sleep after a diaper change.

My heart rips into a million pieces when I hear him scream. But I've learned to turn the volume to the baby monitor down, turn on the TV, and every 10 min or so check the monitor for some noise. It's slowly working. But I totally wish we could just skip this phase and go to easier nap and bedtime rituals.

Moving!

Very excited news for our family. Paul and I are buying a house! We are in contract to buy an adorable 6 bedroom 3 bathroom colonial in Springfield, VA. It's such an amazing feeling to be o e step closer to being home owners. We have been saving like crazy for 3 years for this moment. We will post some pictures of the house when we get closer to closing.

The Poison Control call

On Tuesday morning we had a little crisis.  As I was putting some cortizone on Brandon to help his dry skin (doctors orders) The cap to the bottle I was using popped off.  I wasn't using a normal cream bottle.  It was an easy applicator with a sponge on top.  Well I guess I squeezed the top to much because it popped off and the cortizone when all over Brandon's face.  He cried at the reaction of something hitting his face unexpectedly.  I got his clothes and diaper off and jumped in the bath with him and started washing it off his face, he hated that. After I was carrying him around naked in a towel  looking for the bottle.

Then read the label "If accidentally ingested contact poison control."

We all know I was cool as a cucumber at this moment.  I called 411 to find the poison control number and second guessed myself when I called them for the first time that I dialed the right number.  This elevator music started and no one answered the phone. So not trusting Verizon connect I googled the number.  They gave me the right number I just wasn't patient enough to wait for an operator.  So the next time I called I spoke to a woman who ended up telling me everything was going to be fine, even if Brandon ate the entire bottle of cortizone he would be fine and I didn't have to take him to the ER or do anything special.  MAJOR RELIEF.

The next morning poison control called to follow up on how Brandon was doing.  He was his normal happy self.  I felt soooo terrible that this happened to Brandon, but I couldn't believe how much it shook me and how scattered I was trying to get Brandon dressed in case we needed to go to the ER, find the poison control number, and keep myself and Brandon calm.  I just pray we don't have anymore incidents like this.  I was so happy the cortizone didn't harm him.

Changes

In just 10 days Brandon has gotten 2 teeth.
He has learned how to open the cabinets.
He will pull himself up on the gates and shake them like he's trying to escape.
Will only say DaDa, but we think he knows what it means because he looks at Paul and says it more when he is around.
B has been sleeping from 6:30PM to about 5AM...getting him back to sleep at 5 is nearly impossible.
Our blue ray player will probably be broken soon if we don't figure out a way to keep Brandon away from it.

Paul thinks Brandon is going through a developmental change right now because he's learning something new everyday sometimes more than one thing in a day. It's driving us nuts because the little baby that we used to leave in the living room while we washed dishes can no longer be left out of sight. If he's not pulling himself up on the furniture he is crawling into something he shouldn't be going into.

New Year New You

New year new you!

This is all I hear on the news segments every morning. My resolution was to cut back on soda and red bull (even the sugar free kind) plus to continue to work on a new healthy me by staying active and taking a daily vitamin. It's silly to put "take my vitamin" on my resolution list but if you think about it it's kind if hard to remember every morning to take one. I hate the taste of chewable vitamins...you can ask my mom, I used to hide them in my shoes or closet to get out of taking them. The swallowable ones have a bad taste if you accidentally get taste of the shell and they are too big. BUT I finally found a way to take them. Every time I buy them I get my cutting board out and cut them in half. Then I'll take them with a sip of juice to ease the nasty vitamin taste. So far I'm really successful with all my resolutions. I feel great giving my body the minerals and vitamins it needs and keeping the junky soft drinks out. Now I am not perfect and I do allow one day a week to enjoy a nice diet coke.

Nap time

I've got Brandon on a great 2 a day nap schedule. But the problem is he will only nap on me. On a rare day I can get him to lay on the couch or our bed, but normally it is impossible to get him to nap alone. I am beginning to start toughening up and really focusing on how to get B to sleep alone during the day. He sleeps all night in his crib so now it's time to get tough and start getting this baby to sleep in his travel crib or normal crib. Paul suggested I set up the travel crib in our bedroom because our bedroom stays darkest all day long. So starting tomorrow, we have a play date today, I will be forcing Brandon to nap in a crib so I can get some things done during his 45-90 minute naps. Wish me luck this boy is tough when it comes to nap time, he knows all my weaknesses.

Baptism pictures from Sunday

My friend Kim took these pictures, which was so sweet of her.  They are so beautiful.  I hope you enjoy them as much we do.

Brandon Fun Facts

Gates are everywhere because...

I can crawl everywhere, but I'm already getting bored with it and trying to pull myself up to walk

I prefer Mommy and Daddy to hold my hands and walk me around rather than crawl

I got my first tooth on January 5, 2011

I eat normal table food, for breakfast this morning I had some cereal and a strawberry banana smoothie in my sippy cup.

Mommy and Daddy had a lot of family over this past weekend and I was baptized.  I laughed and was very vocal the entire service.

Mommy caught me standing upstairs near my bedroom next to my bath tub stool.  I love to stand!

My parents found out the hard way that I love to go through the trash, when they found me in the bathroom waste basket.

If I come over to your house I will find the first thing I am not supposed to touch in under 10 seconds..wires are my favorite

I will crawl away in mid-diaper change so be sure to pin me down

I love our roomba vacuum Rosi and chase her, but when she comes straight for me I crawl away and scream like no tomorrow.

8 month developmental changes

Life has suddenly become very difficult because Brandon is going through some developmental changes. At first all I could do was cry with frustration because our perfect little boy who was a great sleeper has refused to sleep in his crib. I have given up a couple nights and just put him in bed with us. Last night was a co-sleeping night. Paul and i started putting Brandon to bed at 6pm. But once it was 8:30 and he was still not sleeping I brought him to our room to calm down and he fell asleep in an instant. At 10:30 Paul came to bed and tried to put Brandon in his crib. Total failure, the moment he laid in him the crib he began screaming. By midnight I gave up and put him in bed with us because it was not worth loosing a whole night sleep.

Today I've been doing my research on how I can get Brandon to sleep all night without Mommy by his side the entire night. I was shocked how clingy he was, he kept his hand on my arm all night to make sure that I didn't move him. From what I read so far I am going to start with moving diner and night time bottle further away from each other. I think we've been giving the bottle too soon after dinner, so then Brandon is too full to lay down. We are also going to try putting a stuffed animal in his crib with him to sooth the feeling of being alone. Some advice I read was to put a night light in his room because he might be afraid of the dark, but that was a failure after last night. All Brandon did was stare at the light and wanted to grab it.

I refuse to let Brandon just cry it out. He has always had a reason for his crying. We couldn't figure out last nights reason but I am going to make sure tonight Brandon sleeps in his crib! I don't want him getting used to sleeping in our bed, many parents have told me that it's impossible to get them out of the parents bed once they get cozy with you.
