Peter was doing so great yesterday until they compressed his feeds from 90 minutes to 60 minutes this morning. His first one was at midnight then he got a 2 hour break. The next one began at 3AM, during this 1 hour feed he spit up a very good amount that his nurse felt he wasn't ready for the 1 hour feed so he is back to the 90 minute feeds to get his tummy used to eating. The doctors are being overly cautious with him because they don't want him to spit up or throw up and for some of that to get in his lungs since he is still healing from his operation 2 weeks ago.
Paul and I are switching off with Brandon since he is not allowed to visit the pediatric wing while he is sick. Brandon's cough is loosening up so he should be getting better, yesterday he had his follow up doctor appointment and the nurse asked that we continue nebulizing him and then start weaning him from it starting this weekend, they want to rule out that it's asthma now, so in 10 days we are going back to the doctor for Brandon, hopefully by then Ill have little PJ with me for that visit.
Yesterday when I called the nurse for the 10th time of the day she said that PJ just got his hospital gown on, I asked her if I could bring him real clothes since this was the first time the nurse even put a gown on him. We didn't know if he was allowed to wear clothes, but since he had his incision redressed in a more cushiony material and the surgeon gave the okay to take out his pacer wires he no longer has to stay bundled up in just a diaper. His nurses in the PICU explained that they wanted them just in a diaper so if they needed to hook up the pace maker they would not have to fiddle around with buttons and zippers.
Dressing Peter was fun, but he didn't make it easy. After I dressed him up in his cute outfit and then swaddled him in his own blanket he made a present for me in his diaper. Well I unbundled, changed, and re-clothed him. Well right after I finished he pooped AGAIN. He did this little changing routine with me 3 times until he was completely done.
Peter's physical therapist was in with him when I arrived at 5PM. She told me I could do chest snuggles with him now that he is 2 wks post op. But before we could start this Peter decided to spit up all over Mommy's shirt. I didn't bring a spare shirt so I was stuck smelling like gross formula. Once he was cleaned up we got back to snuggling, Peter seemed to LOVE being snuggled this way, he fell asleep so fast. He was exhausted, awake for the entire 3 hours I was with him. I called during my pumping sessions last night and he was sleeping very well, only waking up from a dirty diaper.
