Today Paul went to see Peter this morning and found out he had an awesome night. His feeds have been going great (no more spit ups or throwing up) and they were switching him to a low fat formula called enfacore by enfamil. They are starting him on a less concentrated version working him up to 20ml per hour then they will switch him to the regular enfacore formula. But the best news by far today was that Peter is no longer a PICU baby he is now waiting for a bed to open in the pediatric cardiac wing of the hospital. They don't have any free rooms in pediatrics tonight so the nurses and doctors said they are keeping him until a bed frees up hopefully tomorrow. This means Peter can finally be surrounded by his whole family and Paul and I don't have to swap turns going to visit Peter.
When I got to the hospital tonight Peter was enjoying the mobile that his nurse had child wellness deliver to his room. She said he's been such a great baby and really had nothing to report about today. His chest tube drainage has been minimal and the doctor is thinking the hole might have been more of a bruise, but it's so great that he's moving forward. I wished I could stay with him all night, but exhaustion has hit Paul and I hard and we know neither of us could sleep in his room with all the alarms from other kids machines going off and nurses and doctors coming in to check on Peter so we go home at night to rest and call around 2am and 6am to see how he's doing.
I feel like I should hold my excitement in until he is actually in the pediatric wing of the hospital. But the fact that the think he is well enough to go there right now has me ready to do cart wheels.
