Between singing, visitors, and getting ready for our departure from Holland there has been zero time to blog. We'll start are update with today.
Paul took the morning off from work to take Brandon and I to the city hall to register our little guy as an expat in Rotterdam (I know we're leaving in 2 weeks but we still have to follow the rules until we leave then we can cancel the application) When we were at the desk getting it done we found out that we did not have the official copy of his birth certificate. We only had a copy, luckily we were in the same place we could get the official document (whew), so one day if Brandon needs the real official thing instead of his Embassy documents we have it and no one has to make a very long trip to The Netherlands to get a copy.
Monday I took Brandon for his 4 1/2 month check up. When he turned 4 months I took him in to get weighed just for my own curiosity, he was 18.1lbs. Well in two weeks he lost a little weight, which I'm told is normal. he checked in at 17.9lbs and 26.5 inches. This weight loss makes no sense to me because he is eating just as much some days more than usual. But I guess now that he spends a lot more time on his tummy and the floor he won't be gaining as fast. But he is perfectly healthy and was such a champ when he got his vaccinations. Before we left the doctor printed out everything I should or might need for his new doctor in America. After the appointment we headed to meet my Aunt Diane, cousin Carrie, and her Aunt Rose. They came up from Paris to visit us for the weekend and before they caught their train back to Paris we were going out for lunch in Delft. Lunch was great, Brandon was a doll, but he did make a mess of himself and I had to end up throwing out his clothes (hat, socks, onsie, pants). It was bad, I won't go into to much detail, but just imagine a baby not pooping for 3 days and then it all happening at once. There were not enough wipes in the world to clean it up. I was just happy I had witness to this momentous event (yeah it was that crazy) What made it even more difficult was the fact that there was no changing table, so I was changing him on a tiny counter top with a sink hole. It's funny what you can make work when your baby NEEDS to be changed. Brandon was not a happy camper until he got his new change of clothes, after that all was good.
While we were just walking around the square window shopping we went into a Delft Blue store and Brandon started his vocalizing. The store clerk said "One day he'll be an opera singer" she did not know I am one. I was grinning that someone else has recognized his vocalizing. He's definitely going to have a big voice one day!
Sunday we had WCC friend who is living in Dormond, Germany come over for lunch with her boyfriend. It was great to catch up and also find out that we plan on auditioning for a lot of the same opera programs and companies in the fall. I'm sure we'll bump into each other at auditions.
Saturday I was singing in a little festival outside of Rotterdam with some of the studio colleagues. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for outdoor singing. I even got some sunburn. My Aunt and Cousin arrived from Paris and made it to the last performance block just in time! It was great to have some family see me sing live rather than just on youtube! After the performance we went back to our house, had some tea and cookies while Brandon played with everyone! Then we had some great Thai food at a restaurant next to our house. Brandon was so good. They sat us next to the door which I thought would bother him, but he fell asleep the moment we parked the stroller and stayed asleep until the last 30 minutes of dinner. I'm pretty sure the restaurant staff loved him, at the end of the night the manager gave him a red heart lollipop for being so good. But he said Daddy could eat it for him.
I'm so happy to have the rest of today to get Brandon back into a routine. This past week has been an un-fun week of teething and a growth spurt too. We're trying to get him to sleep through the night again, but everyday it seems to be something new that makes him wake up in the middle of the night. Keep your fingers crossed that he gets a full night of sleep tonight so Mama and Papa can too.
Tomorrow we take a day trip to the coast of Alkmar to visit Anke and her daughter.
