Upper Normamdy

Friday we began our journey to Etretat, France.  It was 500km on the road.  The ride there took a little longer than we expected.  Brandon was an excellent passenger, but we had to make stops every 2-3 hours to stretch our legs, feed and change him, and   eat some lunch.  But once we arrived at the hotel it was worth every minute of the drive.  Our hotel was on one of the cliffs and it boasted amazing panoramic views of the Chalk Cliffs.

Our first night we took it easy, unpacked, and had dinner at the hotel.  We were worried Brandon wouldn't make it through the 2 hour dinner, but again he surprised us and was wonderful.  He also slept the whole night in his travel crib for the first time.  The hotel room was very spacious compared to other French hotels we've stayed at.  There was tons of floor room for Brandon's crib, stroller, and bouncy chair.  The only thing I wished we had was a room with a view of the cliffs, but when we booked the hotel the only room left was a garden view.

Saturday we started the day early, which is very easy when you have a baby who wakes at 8AM.  We walked up this cliff with Brandon in the baby carrier.

Once we got to the top there was beautiful views of the cliffs on the other side of the beach. We walked along the top of the cliff for an hour and took some great pictures below.

I was very surprised how chilly it was on the coast. The high was supposed to be 72F, but with the wind it felt 60. Everyone was dressed in long sleeves and pants. Paul and Brandon were dressed for the weather, but I only brought shorts and dresses. I ended up buying a long sleeve shirt to keep warm Saturday night. I think it's a cute shirt, but with a very nautical feel.

We took a walk up the other side of the beach later in the afternoon. I was very surprised how much busier it had become. The cliffs were filled with French tourists, but we still got some great photos of the cliff that has the shape of an elephant trunk. Take a look and see if you can see the elephant trunk.

On Sunday we took a day trip to Fecamp. It was about a 20 drive away from Etretat. The French countryside was a great drive. In Fecamp we visited Palais Benedictine. It's a museum, palace, and distillery for the famous Benedictine liquor. You might recognize some of the famous posters that were made for it in the early 20th century.

We tried to keep Brandon on a schedule similar to one we use when he is home. We would go back to the hotel room to have nap time and unwind between outings. It seemed to work for Brandon, but we could tell he was going to enjoy getting back home into his routine. By the time we got home Monday night Brandon was very cranky. I went to the grocery store to pick up some supplies but by the time I got home (less than 20 minutes) Brandon was crying inconsolably. Paul came down stairs and gave Brandon to me to try and calm him. It took a couple minutes to get him calm, but for the next hour getting him fed and bathed was a challenge. All the little guy wanted was to get to bed, but he was too upset to let anyone but Mama put him to sleep.

Brandon is definitely turning into a Mama's boy
