Happy 1st Birthday

One year ago our family was an emotional mess with Peter being born with a congenital heart defect. But one year later he is the happiest and cutest little guy. Today we had a birthday party for him and it was so much fun. Peter loved all the attention on him, but what he loved most was that since today was his day he could play with any toy he wanted and didn't have to take turns. This meant Thomas was all his. He would cry if another friend or crazy brother Brandon would try to take a ride. We knew he was faking it because after they would be taken off he would get back on and stop crying.

We made Peters birthday theme Mickey Mouse since its the only character or thing he's shown major interest in. I did some cake and cupcake research and made his cake and cupcakes from scratch. It was my first time dealing with fondant, but I have a pretty awesome neighbor/friend who runs a bakery and has all the tools to make cakes and cupcakes, she graciously let me borrow her tools. So I just bought the fondant and got to work. Below you can see the final results.
Our entertainment for the older kids I thought was awesome. Aunt Lindsey and Auntie Gina came early to help fill water balloons for a big friendly water balloon fight after cake!! It came at a perfect time cause the kids were hyper and it was starting to drizzle. After the balloons were gone some kids (mine of course) took a swim in the kiddie pool that held the balloons.

Once everyone dried off we sat down quietly and opened presents...ha ha did you believe that? It was present chaos, Brandon and all his friends helped rip open all of Peters gifts. I had to pace them so we could know what came from who. But the kids loved helping Peter open his gifts. Peter was also way past his nap so he didn't care who did what...just as long as he can play with it later.

After a good long nap for the birthday boy and some quiet reading time for Brandon we took the family to Mikes American Grill for dinner. Peter is starting to freak out if I leave him with Brandon. He loves his brother so much he wants to go everywhere with him.

I can't believe it's been a year. It went by so slow in the beginning. But them out of no where he's 1 year old. We love you Peter James!
