We started our trip on Monday. Paul had a business trip to Houston for the umpteenth time but this time we decided to tag along and visit my Aunt and Uncle as well as my cousins and their children. Flying with a 22 month old and 6 month old is not an easy task, but with snacks, toys, and in flight direct TV we made it. We also got Brandon his own seat so that made things a lot easier too. Paul and went our separate ways at the airport. The boys and I met my Aunt and Uncle. They had had everything from car seats, strollers, toys, crib, and high chairs so I only had to pack for the plane and clothes for the week.
Monday we took it easy and my cousin Sarah came over with her son Lincoln who is just 3 months younger than Brandon. He was a bit shy towards Brandon, but Brandon was a little to in his face at times, he's not shy at all.
Tuesday was a fun fun day we learned from my Aunt and Uncle that the second largest rodeo in the world is in Houston and was currently in town. So we were treated to a day of viewing the animals, which Brandon loved because he was aloud to go right in some pens and touch every pig, sheep, goat, llamba, and donkey!
It was a great day. My cousin JD and his wife brought their twin girls Laney and Morely, the girls are almost 3 and Brandon had so much fun with them. It took a couple minutes to break the ice but once they were comfortable those kids never sat down once. Well they couldn't sit either because Peter was in the stroller. Lol. Brandon had his first pony ride and carnival ride. I was thankful he was 1 inch to short to ride a lot of things because he wanted to go on this airplane ride that was not scary but I had a feeling he might try to jump out because I wasn't aloud on the ride with him. He's just way to tall for his age.
After a long day we relaxed after a long bedtime routine ( the boys were a tad difficult being out of their normal routine, mostly Brandon.)
Wednesday Paul came over in the morning to visit because he first forgot to give me my passport and the boys passports and birth certificate after we left each other at the airport. Plus we promised to come at least once since his schedule work didn't begin until late afternoon. Cousins Laney and Morley and their mom April came over and we met at the park (the weather was awesome so we were at a park at least 2 times a day) Paul had to leave around lunch time. The kids had a picnic lunch while watching toy story
Later my cousin Sarah joined the fun with Lincoln. It was CR-Aazy, the kids played well but by the end of the day they were just exhausted. All were given a bath a put to bed.
Thursday we went to another park and took a trip to the store for supplies for the trip back to DC. This time I was flying just me and the boys so I needed back up crafts and coloring to distract Brandon from causing any trouble. That night we did dinner at a great Mexican restaurant and Brandon chose to do laps around our dinner table during the entire meal. I'm serious he ran in circles for 20+ minutes. The wait staff started to all crowd in a corner and watch him. When he saw them he went over and they started showing him the restaurant. Peter was pretty much his laid back self the entire trip so far. At times I would forget he was in the stroller he was just so quiet sometimes. Well he saved his screams for the airplane ride home that's for sure!
Peter and Brandon were so awesome going through the airport security, waiting at the gate and for the first 2 hours they were great. But the last hour was a living nightmare. Both were so tired and it didn't help that there was turbulence so Brandon was forced to stay seated with a safety belt on. And Peter was hungry but kept refusing a bottle and food he just wanted to sleep but wouldn't in my arms. When I took B to the bathroom the flight attendant held Peter and in those 5 min he fell asleep, but for me he would never sleep. I think he sensed my nerves.
Well after a great week in Houston and a rocky flight home we are unpacked and ready to get back into our routine. It was so much fun to visit Houston and catch up with my Aunt and Uncle. They are such wonderful people and can't thank them enough for welcoming us into their home and filling our week with so much fun and excitement. I really hope we will go back again, but not until the fall or winter. I can't imagine the heat of Houston summers. In March it was 85F. And that was spring weather?!!
